Hogwart’s Legacy 2 news

A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is actively in development, according to Warner Bros. 

The studio confirmed in a recent earnings report that a “second installment” for Hogwarts Legacy is in the works. No details were provided on what the game will look like or when it might release, but it appears to be a serious focus for the company going forward. In the earnings report, WB expected that titles like Hogwarts Legacy 2 will “meaningfully contribute” to its future revenue. 

“We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy,” says the report. 

This shouldn't come as too big of a shock, though. Warner Bros. had previously stated that a Hogwarts Legacy successor was a big priority following the success of the first game. Hogwarts Legacy is among the best-selling games of all time, with 40 million copies sold. In 2023, it was the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar Games title since 2009 to be the top seller of the year. 

Harry Potter is also getting a major second wind at Warner Bros. as it prepares to re-launch the franchise with a TV adaptation on HBO this Christmas. The show is already moving forward on its second season, casting major stars like Nicholas Hoult. The series will almost certainly ignite new interest in the brand and do wonders for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. 

With the first game having released in 2023, it wouldn't be surprising if we see a sequel by late 2028, if not sooner. While there's certainly room to expand the map, a lot of the heavy lifting has already been done by designing Hogwarts and its surrounding areas. There are likely ways for the team to reuse these assets in order to get the game done faster. However, they may also be afforded more time and resources to really push the boundaries with the sequel, thanks to the absurd success of the first game. 

Maybe if we're lucky, it will be a launch title for PS6, which is speculated to release in fall 2027. Only time will tell, but more wizarding adventures are certainly on the way.
